IF you were to visit X Factor Cars Riverside Speedway before lockdown you would have noticed an impressive-looking structure on the back straight, namely the new corporate area.

Track commentator Daryl Shuttleworth said, “It’s the best seat in the house, even better than mine in the control tower.

“The club knew it had to offer some form of corporate area for sponsors as speedway grew in the south, and inquiries from local businesses about having work functions and Christmas parties at the speedway were starting to roll in.”

The club also used it to host companies which had come on board to sponsor events and, with the club hosting the 2020/21 New Zealand Saloon Championship, it would be a great vantage point, he said.

The corporate area was a container, which opened up so if it was a cold, miserable day, fans could watch from inside, or if it was a stunning Southland summer day, they could enjoy the action from the viewing deck.

Stage two of the project would see a deck fitted to the outside and a tidy up inside.

“A number of club members worked very hard to get this project to where it is now; fundraising, driving in piles, painting and generally chipping in has seen this area come together and become a great asset to the club,” Shuttleworth said.

Major sponsors of the corporate area were ISM 2000 Ltd and South Engineering, while Sign Solutions, who was also a track wall sponsor, ensured the container looked the part with some smart signs.

Other local businesses to come on board with the project were Bottle-O Wetlands, Thompsons Furniture Warehouse, Suite Southern Designs, The Pits TV and The Savoy Bakery.

“Without the support of these great businesses, we simply could not do anything like this. It’s a great addition to a great club,” Shuttleworth said.
