ENTRY level motorsport is booming in the south with the Southland Sports Car Club (SSCC) to host its first event of the new season Motorsport ClubSport Triathlon at Teretonga Park, near Invercargill, on Sunday, July 26.
This would be a non-championship event to replace the traditional end-of-season triathlon, which was postponed in April because of Covid-19.
The triathlon would feature motorkhana and autocross – with motorkhana being the perfect start to have a go at entry level motorsport.
Motorkhana competitors could tackle a single-car quarter-mile sprint, motorkhana challenges on grass and seal, and another sprint. A helmet was required for the sprint but the club could provide one if needed.
SSCC ClubSport co-ordinator Malcolm Mitchell said it was the perfect chance for anyone interested in cars and motorsport to give motorkhana a go.
“We have so many recent newcomers to the sport at the moment that you will have plenty of others taking their first steps in the sport to compete against.”
Entries for the motorkhana and quarter-mile sprint would be from 8.30am on Sunday. Entry was $25 per driver, and action should get under way at 9.30am.
Anyone aged 12 and over could have a go in any car of warrant of fitness-standard or use one of two cars which were available for an extra cost of $20.
The committee was also encouraging workplace challenges this season.
Anyone could challenge workmates or someone from another business to contest these events to grab bragging rights either in their own car, or one available to use on the day.
Spectators were welcome to check out the action and learn more about ClubSport, with free entry.
